The Making of a Cover Shot

Coco’s infamous for doing 60 poses in less than 30 seconds. We caught her in action to bring you our favorite video of the month.

I make my models watch videos of Coco modeling so they can learn from it.

i.love.her.

She was on an episode of Americas Top Model, it was pretty rad.

Really Cool Woman #7
Cari Ann Wayman
I first discovered Wayman’s photography after finding myself intrigued by the artwork for Los Campesinos!’ album, ‘Romance Is Boring’. I discovered that not only is she responsible for the beautiful shot of those bleeding shins that makes up the front cover, but also the double-fold images in the vinyl of ‘RIB’ and other shots used for their singles and an EP. - so evocative of the band’s sound and their lyrical themes.
Her distinctive sepia-tinged self portraits, often showing a lone figure in various abandoned locations have a sense of disillusioned Americana, there’s almost an ironic patriotism about photos like this one. The abandoned house, left with posessions, letters and photos of its former inhabitants, speaks volumes about American history, yet there Wayman sits, proudly grapsing a gun.
Her work is mostly focused on self-portraits but it’s never narcissitc, and the various characters displayed in these are always captivating; the lolita-esque clothing/expressions and the broken buildings. We’re given a window into her world, but through a lens that gives everything a fairy-tale allure - even the broken houses and dead animals.
Wayman herself seems just as intriguing and elusive as her photography suggests; she says she didn’t speak until the age of 12 and in (rare) interviews reveals a strong dislike of social situations. Her photography is undeniably beautiful, it implies a life of wandering, freedom and art - the kind that tumblr tends to idealise, but shows a true talent, and is inspiring to many. Of course, we all wish we could take photos of beautiful things for a living, and whilst I know I’d be terrible at that, the availability, quantity and immediacy of Wayman’s work lets us pretend for a while that we could do that too.

holy shit, thank you <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

True, every word

first sight, after sight: and then, all at once, it happened.

I was born mid-dream, fevered and fairy-taled. My mother taught me how to build things great like oak trees out of broken things. I guess I’ve always been lonely. It never bothered me like other things. Like fractions and middle school boys and poetry…

I don’t know what this is other than magical.
